Solution sought for drainage issue near Greenbrier
Efforts are underway to find a solution to a ponding/drainage issue occurring south of Greenbrier subdivision. Three landowners are involved with water that ponds in that area and remains longer than 24 hours after rainfall. Several years ago, the Village looked into options for solving the problem after becoming concerned that the water could become a mosquito breeding ground. At that time, trustees considered a $4,958 proposal to install a drain tile system to take the ponding water to the west. However, easements were needed, and no agreement was reached. Village Administrator Heather Kimmons said the fact that farmland is involved calls for legal research to determine a course of action as well as verify any public health concerns. “Absent any serious public health risk, I’m not eager to see the Village spend money [on the project],” she said. “The Village should not become entrenched in this issue,” she said. Kimmons plans to meet with the affected property owners this month, and on July 6, she told trustees it is advisable for the Village to try to facilitate an agreement with the parties, given the public health aspect. |
